K-12 language skills acquisition and general education is one of the broadest issues we could address.  In terms of LRO! we will confine the discussion to available curriculums and some brief comments regarding the content, orientation and capabilities of the Computer Aided Language Learning applications we can provide you:

Cultural Awareness: We suggest you take a look at Real Lives. It is an interactive software that provides simulated life experiences (somewhat similar to SIMS, but not as much interactive multimedia and animation) of people from other cultures.  You will find it listed under Cultural Awareness in the Solutions area.

Computer Based Language Curriculums: We suggest in general that the top language courses for K-12 are published by:

Power-Glide: Course work is accredited and there is curriculum specifically geared toward K-12 learners.  This is highly regarded language learning software by academic standards and has received numerous awards.

Rosetta Stone (Fairfield Language Technologies): A very nice job of integrating the Student Management System and Student Progress Tracking. Provides great flexibility in terms of Network and Online multi-user licensing options and over 18 available languages.

Auralog: The most technologically advanced software we have reviewed.  Superb interactive and multimedia features provides cultural texture to the language learning experience. Available in multi-user license network configurations and provides Internet based supporting materials.

Transparent: Carries a significant number of languages and also includes many games and activities which has proven effective in teaching children  This company also provides a flexible platform to develop custom curriculum with their application framework.  Networked multi-user licensing is available.
